D'Youville College Presidential Search Enters Next Phase
Buffalo, New York 鈥 July 8, 2016 鈥 Formal interviews will be conducted later this summer with potential candidates as the search for D鈥橸ouville College鈥檚 15th president continues.
Sister Denise A. Roche, PhD, a Grey Nun of the Sacred Heart, concluded her 37-year tenure as D鈥橸ouville president on June 30. William J. Mariani, EdD, began serving as interim president on July 1. Dr. Mariani, who previously served as D鈥橸ouville鈥檚 vice president for Administration Services and External Relations, will not be a candidate for the permanent position. He is a former president of Erie Community College in Buffalo, N.Y.
The Presidential Search Committee reports that a substantial number of applications have been submitted by highly-qualified applicants from all over the country. The Search Committee will narrow the pool to select about ten candidates to interview with the committee in late August or early September. From those interviews, a smaller number of finalists will be invited for on-campus visits in the fall, which will include meetings with faculty and staff, students, alumni, and members of the local community.
鈥淲e are making real progress,鈥 said Melinda Disare, D鈥橸ouville board member and co-chair of the Search Committee. 鈥淥ur intent is that the next president of the college will embrace D鈥橸ouville鈥檚 mission to provide academic, social, spiritual, and professional development in programs that emphasize leadership and service, teaching our students to contribute to the world community by leading compassionate, productive, and responsible lives.鈥

Kim M. Morrisson, PhD, Senior Managing Director of Diversified Search鈥檚 Education and Not-for-Profit Practice, met with Sister Denise and the D鈥橸ouville board earlier this year, to learn more about the college, its mission, and history. She also met with the college鈥檚 senior management team, faculty, and staff, as she worked on the development of the job description.
鈥淥ur goal is to have D鈥橸ouville鈥檚 next president on the job at the start of the Spring 2017 semester,鈥 said C.J. Urlaub, D鈥橸ouville board member and co-chair of the Search Committee. 鈥淗owever, it is important for our college community to know that this is dependent on a number of factors, including the availability of the candidate. We need to make sure we find the right person to lead the college during this important transition.鈥
The Search Committee consists of 15 members, who include a Grey Nun of the Sacred Heart, D鈥橸ouville faculty, staff, students, alumni, and board members.
