Four D鈥橸ouville Accounting Students Honored

Buffalo, New York 鈥 April 27, 2017 鈥 The annual Education Night Dinner of the , Buffalo chapter, was held on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Salvatore鈥檚 Italian Gardens. The event honors the outstanding junior, senior, and graduate students at Western New York colleges and universities. Four D鈥橸ouville College accounting students were honored for their academic accomplishments. Over 400 CPAs, professors, students, and guests were in attendance at the event.

Jonathan Gemerek received a NYSSCPA Graduate Student Award of Honor for outstanding achievement in accounting studies. Mr. Gemerek is in the 5-year program leading to dual bachelor鈥檚 and master鈥檚 degrees. He made the D鈥橸ouville dean鈥檚 list every semester.

Mr. Gemerek works as an accountant at Buffalo Outfront Metalworks and completed an accounting internship. He is a scholar-athlete at D鈥橸ouville College and starred on the men鈥檚 basketball team. Mr. Gemerek was team captain for three years, scored 1000 career points, and earned Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference recognition on the all-academic team for 4 years. He received the D鈥橸ouville College Male Student-Athlete of the Year Award in 2016 and was a member of the AMCC Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

Edward Kerber received a NYSSCPA Senior Student Award of Honor for outstanding achievement in accounting studies. Mr. Kerber is a senior in the 5-year BS/MS combined program at D鈥橸ouville College. He has made the D鈥橸ouville dean鈥檚 list every semester.

In May 2017, Mr. Kerber will complete requirements for his bachelor鈥檚 degree in Accounting. He is completing an accounting/auditing internship with HealthNow. Mr. Kerber is a member of the D鈥橸ouville Student Management Association and loves volunteering and helping others while working two part-time jobs. He plans to finish requirements for his dual degree program and sit for the CPA exam.

Lauren Kudela received a NYSSCPA Senior Student Award of Honor for outstanding achievement in accounting studies. Ms. Kudela will complete her bachelor鈥檚 degree in accounting in May 2017. Ms. Kudela has earned recognition on the dean鈥檚 list throughout her studies at D鈥橸ouville College. She works as an operations production analyst for National General Insurance and completed an internship at The Boat Works in Youngstown. She specializes in diverse aspects of accounting and business administration.

Ignatius Golombek received a NYSSCPA John T. Kennedy Memorial Award for overall academic excellence honoring a junior majoring in accounting. Mr. Golombek has been in the US Army for the past 13 years. He served 10 years on Active Duty then returned to Buffalo as a member of the Reserves and began his accounting studies at D'Youville College in 2014.

He has been on the dean's list every semester. He is an active member in numerous volunteer organizations and donates his time helping those in need. He plans to finish requirements for his bachelor鈥檚 degree in accounting, a master鈥檚 degree in international business, and sit for the CPA exam.

鈥淲e are extremely proud of our outstanding accounting students who excel in the classroom. They represent D鈥橸ouville College well and will be fine additions to the accounting profession,鈥 said Joseph Kabacinski, CPA, assistant professor in the DYC Business/Accounting Department, in announcing the honors.
