Sister Donna Del Santo Visits D鈥橸ouville to Meet Scholarship Recipients

Buffalo, New York 鈥 September 27, 2017 鈥 D鈥橸ouville President Lorrie Clemo welcomed Sr. Donna Del Santo to campus on September 15 to meet recipients of the Del Santo Family Community Health Scholarship.

The scholarship, supporting nursing students in their junior or senior year who demonstrate a commitment to community service and are pursuing a career in community health, was established earlier this year by anonymous donors in honor of both Sr. Donna and her late sister, Diane Del Santo.

The Del Santos have a long history with D'Youville, both as stewards and as students of the College. Sr. Donna, '75, received a degree from D鈥橸ouville鈥檚 School of Nursing, and Diane, '82, received a degree from D'Youville's School of Education.

Currently, Sr. Donna is a nurse for the Sisters of Saint Joseph for the Monroe County Jail, the coordinator for a homeless shelter in Rochester, and a volunteer at the , a Catholic house of hospitality.

Earlier this year, Sister Donna received the from the for improving the quality of life of others through service. Diane was the recipient of this award in 2010 and had worked as a Buffalo Public School teacher until her death in January 2016.

Eight students were chosen through an application process to receive the award at the beginning of the school year.

"With this scholarship, I will be able to focus more on my education and helping the community,鈥 said D'Youville nursing student Michaela McMahon, '20.

D鈥橸ouville is ranked as the second best school for healthcare education in Western New York. The School of Nursing, one of the largest programs on campus, provides students with clinical experiential learning that prepares them for the nursing profession.
