D'Youville University Announces Dr. Matt Hamilton as Faculty Athletics Representative
We are proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Matt Hamilton, Associate Professor in the Exercise and Sports Studies program, as the D鈥橸ouville University Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR).
鈥淒鈥橸ouville University attracts student athletes who are passionate about excelling in competition and the classroom and we are committed to ensuring this success,鈥 says . 鈥淭he Faculty Athletics Representative is integral to the success of this commitment and I am confident that Dr. Hamilton will do just that.鈥
The role of the faculty athletics representative is an essential partner of the University and athletics to ensure holistic success, university-community engagement, and personal development. Dr. Hamilton will be responsible for ensuring NCAA best practices are implemented and promote the academic welfare of all student athletes. As FAR, Dr. Hamilton will interact with coaches, advisors, and academic units across campus to ensure success.
Dr. Hamilton is currently an Associate Professor in the Exercise and Sports Studies program and has been with D鈥橸ouville since 2010. Dr. Hamilton earned his Doctor of Education in Health Policy and Health Education from D鈥橸ouville in 2016; Master of Science in Health and Human Performance from Canisius University in 2007; and a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from the State University of New York at Cortland in 2005.
Dr. Hamilton is no stranger when it comes to collegiate athletics, he served as an athletic training graduate assistant for two years before becoming a full-time athletic trainer at Canisius in the spring of 2007. During his tenure Dr. Hamilton worked closely with the men鈥檚 soccer, baseball, and synchronized swimming teams from 2005-09. Adding the men鈥檚 soccer and basketball teams in 2009.
鈥淎thletics, in my opinion, is a vital part of the student鈥檚 success and experience when coming to a university,鈥 said Dr. Hamilton. 鈥淎nything that I can do to help that experience is important for me. Whether that is duties as the FAR or assisting students and staff members in other areas. Athletics has been a big part of my life for a long time, and I am passionate about.鈥
Dr. Hamilton is well-recognized and well-respected at both D鈥橸ouville University and in the athletic training and exercise and sports studies field. Dr. Hamilton is a five-time Exercise and Sports Studies Faculty Member of the Year as well as receiving D鈥橸ouville University Faculty Member of the Year.
