WNY BloodCare (WNYBC) and D’Youville University have announced a new collaboration that brings D’Youville’s School of Pharmacy into the management and oversight of WNYBC’s Specialty Pharmacy.

Working closely with WNYBC staff, this partnership leverages the expertise of D’Youville’s School of Pharmacy to deliver high-quality pharmaceutical services to patients with hemophilia and other bleeding disorders. D’Youville’s Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) professionals will provide patient counseling on proper medication use, potential side effects, and possible drug interactions, while also supporting the latest advances in gene therapy.

D’Youville University’s School of Pharmacy emphasizes hands-on, real-world learning that prepares students to lead in clinical settings and patient care. This collaboration offers students valuable experience working with a specialized patient population, while strengthening skills in communication, problem-solving, and interprofessional teamwork. D’Youville also operates Vital Pharmacy, a full-service community pharmacy located within its Health Professions Hub, dedicated to improving access, education, and outcomes for patients across Western New York.

Hemophilia and other bleeding disorders are lifelong conditions that require continuous treatment. Patients typically administer medication through intravenous infusion or subcutaneous injection to replace clotting “factors” that their bodies do not naturally produce. These genetic conditions often affect multiple generations within families and require long-term care coordination.

WNYBC participates in the federal 340B drug pricing program and holds Specialty Pharmacy Accreditation from URAC (Utilization Review Accreditation Commission)—a designation that reflects adherence to nationally recognized standards for quality and safety.
