D'Youville University Launches New Student Creator Group
Deciding where to study for the next four years is a big decision, and many students don鈥檛 make it alone. College research now means asking ChatGPT and watching videos on TikTok and Instagram to see what life on campus is really like.
D鈥橸ouville University is excited to launch its first social media program on campus to give current students a platform to create content for DYU-owned social channels. The Student Creator Group (SCG) currently employs undergraduate students studying a variety of majors from exercise science and nursing to business management and psychology. The group also currently includes student athletes representing soccer, basketball, and track and field. The spring 2026 group features the following student creators:
- Kylee Jones, 鈥29 Exercise Science DPT
- Kwame Anim-Somuah, 鈥28 Business Management
- Samiha Miah, 鈥27 Physician Assistant
- Isaac White, 鈥29 Exercise Science
- Carly Guenther, 鈥27 Nursing
- Dawson Matsell, 鈥27 ESS to Chiro
- Brodie Huber-Gallio, 鈥29 Psychology
The concept of a student social media group was first proposed in July of 2025 and officially launched in Spring 2026, with its first cohort of paid students. Being a content creator on campus is now an on-campus job with support from Federal Work Study and Student Employment Program funding.
The SCG amplifies the stories and voices of real students on campus and empowers creators to showcase their own unique experiences at D鈥橸ouville.
鈥淪ocial media is just as much a part of the college experience as the classes themselves,鈥 D鈥橸ouville University Social Media Marketing Manager and SCG Supervisor Sarah Russo said. 鈥淥ur social media pages become an accurate representation of D鈥橸ouville, and the content becomes more personable when it鈥檚 real students behind the camera.鈥
Student creators attend monthly planning meetings where they鈥檙e able to pitch ideas for social media content based on upcoming events, celebrations, or online trends. Creators are also trained in content creation best practices, filming and editing basics, and D鈥橸ouville University brand guidelines with workshop sessions throughout the semester.
"Hearing current student voices is so beneficial to expressing what life is like on campus," D鈥橸ouville University Enrollment Marketing Specialist and SCG Supervisor Kelsey Rohde said. "Our student creators bring authenticity to our message and help future student see themselves here."
The new group has already created and shared more than a dozen pieces of content across D鈥橸ouville鈥檚 flagship social media channels. Follow D鈥橸ouville University on Instagram (@dyouville_u) and TikTok (@dyouville) to keep up with campus life and see what our student creators are sharing.
