Biography

Wei-Ming Duan, MD, PhD, is a Professor of Anatomy with extensive experience teaching gross anatomy, neuroanatomy, and histology to medical students. He is a proven educator and leader with expertise in course direction and coordination, curriculum design, and implementation of active learning in medical education. He is recognized by students and peers for teaching excellence and positive impact in clinical anatomy and medical education. He also serves on faculty governance and committees (e.g., Promotion & Tenure Committee), reflecting active academic service. Dr. Duan is also an accomplished principal investigator with a strong research record in neuroscience, gene therapy, and stem cells using molecular and cellular biology approaches, supported by animal studies. Demonstrated strengths in academic planning, complex problem-solving, scientific writing, and scholarly publishing, including service as a section editor and an editorial board member for scientific journals.

Research Interests

Previous Focus: Investigation of stem cell and gene therapies within animal models of Parkinson’s disease.
Current Specialization: Clinically oriented human anatomy, specifically the structural organization and anatomical variations of the neurovascular and musculoskeletal systems.
Clinical Applications: Examination of how anatomical complexity and variability impact surgical approaches, diagnostic imaging, and medical education.
Methodology: Utilization of cadaveric dissection, morphometric analysis, and correlation with CT and MRI imaging.
Interdisciplinary Goals: Development of collaborative research bridging the fields of anatomy, surgery, radiology, and medical education.
Translational Objectives: Translation of anatomical knowledge into clinically meaningful applications while advancing innovative, evidence-based teaching methods.

Biography

Dr. Amla is a highly accomplished medical professional and educator, serving as a faculty member in Physiology at D’Youville University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine. She earned her MBBS degree from Dow Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan, and an MS in Plastic Surgery from the University of Karachi, establishing a solid foundation in medical sciences.

With a career spanning prestigious university hospitals and medical schools across Southeast Asia and the Caribbean, Dr. Amla brings extensive clinical and teaching expertise. Her dedication to medical education is evident in her ability to effectively mentor undergraduate and graduate medical students, with a particular emphasis on hands-on clinical skills training, including suturing techniques.

Dr. Amla’s vast experience and commitment to excellence make her an invaluable asset to the College, inspiring the next generation of osteopathic physicians.

Biography

Dr. Sanyaolu is a distinguished medical microbiologist whose career spans public health, clinical practice, and education. With deep expertise in communicable diseases, particularly infectious and tropical diseases, he brings a wealth of knowledge in clinical and public health microbiology.

Dr. Sanyaolu holds a Master’s and Ph.D. in Medical Microbiology from the University of Lagos, Nigeria, and has enriched his expertise through diverse roles in Canada, the United States, and the Caribbean. His contributions to global healthcare include epidemiological surveillance, outbreak investigations, and infectious disease prevention, making him a vital asset in advancing public health initiatives.

Dr. Sanyaolu’s commitment to education and research continues to inspire future healthcare professionals while addressing critical challenges in disease control and prevention.

Research Interests

My research interest is focused on the study of epidemiology, diagnosis, immunology, molecular, host-pathogen interaction, and control of communicable diseases of clinical and public health significance. Over the years, I have been involved in studies on endemic tropical and emerging communicable diseases like Malaria, HIV / AIDS, and opportunistic parasitic infections, Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD), Tuberculosis, Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Dengue, Chikungunya, Zika, Schistosomiasis and Helminthic infection in school children.

More recently, the sudden emergence, ceaseless human-to-human transmission, and rapid spread of Sars-Cov-2, the causative agent of the Covid-19 has led to continuous global pandemicity of the diseases. My research is currently focused on the disease.
