As a neuroscientist, I study brain mechanisms of drug addiction and the impact of drug use on the brain and behavior in order to uncover potential targets for treatment. I have been interested primarily in alcohol's effects on motivation and its impact on the way we process rewards to guide important aspects of choice and decision-making. I am open to studying all drugs of abuse because they impact similar brain areas involved in these processes and can have devastating effects on physical and mental health if misused or abused. I am looking to use my technical and methodological skill set in order to examine these problems most effectively. Ultimately, my goals as a scientist are to improve the prognosis for problematic drug use and substance use disorders, enhance our understanding of the factors involved in drug use, abuse, and addiction, and alleviate negative attitudes toward drug use in order to ameliorate the drug crisis and improve quality of life.</p></div> </div> <div id="education-&amp;-training"> <h2 class="font-bold text-2xl sm:text-4xl ">Education &amp; Training</h2> <div class="prose max-w-none my-6"><ul><li>PhD, Neuroscience, Bowling Green State University, 2018</li><li>MS, Experimental Psychology, Saint Joseph's University, 2012</li><li>BS, Psychology, Bowling Green State University, 2010</li></ul></div> </div> <div id="research-interests"> <h2 class="font-bold text-2xl sm:text-4xl ">Research Interests</h2> <div class="prose max-w-none my-6"><p>Behavioral neuroscience Reward and motivation Drug addiction and substance use disorders</p></div> </div> <div id="links"> <h2 class="font-bold text-2xl sm:text-4xl ">Links</h2> <div class="prose max-w-none my-6"><p><a class="button-link" href="https://orcid.org/0000-0002-7707-7300">Justin McGraw | ORCiD</a></p></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-departments field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="/taxonomy/term/70" hreflang="en">Natural Sciences &amp; Mathematics</a></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-colleague-id field--type-string field--label-above"> <div class="field__label">Colleague ID</div> <div class="field__item">0092223</div> </div> Thu, 28 Sep 2023 13:49:53 +0000 api 1140 at Jason Den Haese /directory/jason-den-haese <span>Jason Den Haese</span> <span><span lang about="/user/49" typeof="schema:Person" property="schema:name" datatype>api</span></span> <div class="intro-decoration-underline italic"> <time datetime="2023-09-28T09:48:56-04:00" title="Thursday, September 28, 2023 - 09:48">Thu, 09/28/2023 - 09:48</time> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-name field--type-name field--label-hidden field__item">Jason Den Haese, BS, MS</div> <ul class="inline-dot-list"> <li>Clinical Associate Professor</li> </ul> <div class="field field--name-field-phone field--type-telephone field--label-hidden field__item"><a href="tel:%28716%29829-8368">(716) 829-8368</a></div> <div class="field field--name-field-email field--type-email field--label-hidden field__item">denhaesj@dyc.edu</div> <div class="field field--name-field-office field--type-string field--label-hidden field__item">SASE 224</div> <div class="field field--name-field-photo field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__item"><article class="media image"> <div class="field field--name-field-media-image field--type-image field--label-visually_hidden"> <div class="field__label visually-hidden">Image</div> <div class="field__item"> <img loading="lazy" src="/sites/default/files/styles/headshot/public/2023-10/DYouville_University_2023_Den-Haese-Jason4.jpg?h=2c3f4923&amp;itok=h-D1S9r_" width="800" height="932" alt="Jason Den Haese Headshot" typeof="foaf:Image"> </div> </div> </article> </div> <div id="biography"> <h2 class="font-bold text-2xl sm:text-4xl ">Biography</h2> <div class="prose max-w-none my-6"><p>I have a strong and diverse research background acquired from experience in industry, clinical, and academic settings. I was the director of gene cloning and research at IMMCO Diagnostics Company where I used my training in molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, and biochemistry to produce 2 new products for diagnosing autoimmune disease in patients in just under three years. In a clinical research setting, I spent 13 years working at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center (RPCCC) focusing on cancer prevention and leukemia. In an academic setting, I collaborated and published with several of my peers and students at D鈥橸ouville University and RPCCC. In 2020, I continued to expand my research acumen by starting my research program at DYU working with fish from the armored catfish families of the Amazon River Basin. My passion for research is only rivaled by my passion for teaching and service to others. I am particularly passionate about mentoring and have dedicated much of my time creating supportive and engaging environments for my students both the classroom and the wider community. I strongly believe in giving back to those in need and am actively involved in volunteering within the university and the greater community.</p></div> </div> <div id="education-&amp;-training"> <h2 class="font-bold text-2xl sm:text-4xl ">Education &amp; Training</h2> <div class="prose max-w-none my-6"><ul> <li>M.S., Biology, Oncology, Niagara University and Roswell Park Cancer Institute, 1991-1993</li> <li>B.S., Biochemistry, Niagara University, 1987-1991</li> </ul></div> </div> <div id="research-interests"> <h2 class="font-bold text-2xl sm:text-4xl ">Research Interests</h2> <div class="prose max-w-none my-6"><p>My current research focus has two major aims, understanding the growth and survival of fry from the armored catfish families from South America and conservation of fish from the armored catfish family that threatened in the wild.</p></div> </div> <div id="awards-&amp;-honors"> <h2 class="font-bold text-2xl sm:text-4xl ">Awards &amp; Honors</h2> <div class="prose max-w-none my-6"><ul> <li>Teaching Excellence Recognition by 快活影院 Women鈥檚 Soccer Team (2022)</li> <li>Teaching Excellence Recognition by 快活影院 Men鈥檚 Soccer Team (2022)</li> <li>Faculty Member of the Year in the Biology and Mathematics Department (2020)</li> <li>Faculty Mentor to D鈥橸ouville University Women鈥檚 Soccer team (2019)</li> <li>Influential Person Award by Allegany County Area Foundation (2016)</li> <li>Faculty Member of the Year at D鈥橸ouville University (2016)</li> <li>Excellence Award from the Buffalo Academy of Science Charter School (2016)</li> <li>D鈥橸ouville University Professor of the Month (April 2016)</li> <li>M &amp; T Bank/Buffalo Bills Touchdown for Teachers (2014)</li> <li>D鈥橸ouville University Professor of the Month (October 2013)</li> </ul></div> </div> <div id="publications"> <h2 class="font-bold text-2xl sm:text-4xl ">Publications</h2> <div class="prose max-w-none my-6"><ul> <li>Elmeliegy, M, Den Haese, J, Talati, C, Weytzler, M and Jusko, WJ.
