Biography

Currently a full professor in the Center for Doctoral Studies and Research, I have over 20 years research experience with course-based undergraduate and graduate teaching. My formal training in Clinical Biomechanics and Orthopedic Sports Medicine has opened many vistas for multidisciplinary research, leveraging 3D human movement analysis and assessment of muscle function to advance general scientific knowledge as well as clinical application. My expertise has enabled me to bridge the gap between public health issues and engineering, that may one day enhance human locomotor capabilities (either assistive, rehabilitative or through augmentation). Collaborative efforts involve investigating musculoskeletal disorder and injury compensation, developing rehabilitative strategies for improving quality of life and returning to work, and injury risk mitigation and performance optimization during sport participation.

Chronic and acute disease and disability in aging, sport performance and musculoskeletal injury and prevention, and rehabilitation.
Etiology of disease and disability of aging and athletic participation, and
Management and rehabilitation strategies to improve quality of life.
Liaison with community Health Promotion organizations to address the holistic wellness needs of individuals or groups to help eliminate barriers to services and facilitate continuity of care.

Biography

After graduating from D’Youville’s Bachelor of Nursing Program, I discovered a neighborhood health center, the Lackawanna Community Health Center. This foundational experience introduced me to a care team of physicians and Community Health Workers delivering primary care in an underserved neighborhood. After several years, the role of nurse practitioner emerged, and I completed the Nurse Practitioner (NP) Program at SUNY Upstate Medical Center. While working as a primary care NP at Health Care Plan, Buffalo's Staff Model HMO, my education continued at the University of Buffalo, completing a master’s degree in business administration and architecture.

With a foundation in both direct care and the art of management, I was introduced to yet another new field, healthcare quality management. With training and guidance from early adopters and leaders in the field, I served for fifteen years as Vice President for Quality Management for Health Care Plan through the transition to Univera Health Plan and acquisition by Excellus Blue Cross of Rochester.

My experience in healthcare quality management clarified the essential need for digitized clinical information to make it possible to improve care and contain costs. When offered the opportunity to participate in electronic health record (EHR) implementation, I served as Clinical Informatics Officer on the Kaleida Health EHR Leadership Team. My responsibility on this team was to ensure that 5,000 Kaleida employees were prepared and trained to move from paper to electronic documentation.

All these experiences were needed to prepare me to teach D’Youville students about health management and administration.

Admission requirements

Applications to the Health Administration doctoral degree program are considered on a competitive basis. In addition to the general admissions requirements, applicants must present the following:

Complete an online graduate application for admission (no application fee).
Submit Official undergraduate and graduate transcripts from all colleges/universities attended.
- Completion of a master's degree, with a minimum of 30 graduate credit hours with grades of B or better.
- Minimum graduate grade point average of 3.0 (based on a 4.0 system).
