The Pre-Physician Assistant program at D’Youville University is an undergraduate pre-health pathway program designed to provide the knowledge, skills, and experience needed to prepare students for the graduate-level Physician Assistant (MS) degree. Program Requirements

PA Early Assurance Track

To maintain your Early Assurance status, you must:

Maintain a minimum cumulative semester GPA of 3.0 at D’Youville.
Maintain a minimum cumulative overall GPA of 3.0.
Maintain a minimum cumulative science GPA of 3.0.
Earn a minimum grade of B- in all science courses and a minimum grade of C in all other coursework at D’Youville.
During your junior year, complete a successful interview process with the PA Department, including:
- A personal essay,
- Three (3) letters of recommendation, and
- Documentation of direct patient interaction hours, if applicable.
You will not need to submit a CASPA application, as your pathway is internal to D’Youville.

Please Note: If a student’s GPA falls below the stated requirements or they are not successful in their interview, their Early Assurance seat will be forfeited. However, they may still apply to the Physician Assistant (MS) program through the standard admission process at the end of their undergraduate studies.

It’s important to note that Early Assurance does not guarantee automatic admission to the graduate PA program at this stage. Instead, it provides a clear and supportive route toward your goal — combining strong academics, professional preparation, and personal growth.

Pre-PA Advisory Track

Students who are not accepted into early assurance (or lost their early assurance seat) can still take PA prerequisites in our pathway degree programs. Curriculum requirements for this program can be found in the Academic Catalog. Students on a Pre-PA Advisory Track can then apply into the Physician Assistant (MS) program at the end of their undergraduate degree. D’Youville students on this track are guaranteed an interview if departmental minimum standards are met, and they do not have to apply through CASPA. The following are the PA Department's minimum standards required for a guaranteed interview:

Must maintain a cumulative science grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0.
Must maintain an overall semester and cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0.
A minimum grade of a B- for all science courses (C for all other coursework) specified as a PA prerequisite. However, students must be aware of the 3.0 minimum semester and cumulative GPA requirements and 3.0 minimum cumulative science GPA.

The Pre-Physician Assistant Pathway provides the foundational studies in biology, chemistry, anatomy, and physiology needed to pursue a master’s degree in physician assistant studies and build a rewarding career diagnosing illness, developing treatment plans, and providing high-quality, patient-centered care across a wide range of medical specialties.

A Physician Assistant's Role

Physician Assistants (PAs) are licensed medical professionals who diagnose and treat illnesses, prescribe medications, and perform clinical procedures under the supervision of a physician. Trained in the medical model, PAs play an essential role in today’s healthcare system—improving access to care and enhancing the quality of patient outcomes through teamwork, flexibility, and advanced clinical expertise.

PAs work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive care across all settings. You can choose to apply to enter the Physician Assistant (MS) degree from any program, but we recommend enrolling into one of the following as the Pre-Physician Assistant Pathway:

There are two pathways to set yourself up for applying to the Physician Assistant (MS) program.

PA Early Assurance Track:

D’Youville sets aside a number of early assurance seats available to exceptional first-time-in-college students each year. Early assurance is a track that guarantees students an interview in the Physician Assistant (MS) program at the completion of their undergraduate degree, provided they remain in satisfactory academic standing throughout their degree.

Pre-PA Advisory Track:

Students who are not eligible for early assurance can still take the Pre-Physician Assistant undergraduate prerequisite courses, then apply to the Physician Assistant (MS) program.

Biography

Amitabha Ray completed his graduation in Medicine (MBBS) from the University of Calcutta, subsequently residency in Pathology, his medical postgraduate degree (M.D.) at the Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, and his Ph.D. from J.M.I., New Delhi, India. He was associated with the Indian Council of Medical Research. He pursued his postdoctoral research in Professor Margot P. Cleary’s laboratory at the Hormel Institute (University of Minnesota), Austin, MN. In Dr. Cleary’s lab, he worked primarily on the role of obesity and the interactions between different adipocyte-released cytokines, particularly leptin and adiponectin in breast cancer pathology. In recent times, he completed the Master of Science program in Medical Education from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, Pennsylvania, and a one-year Postgraduate Certificate program in Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases from the University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom. He has published more than 70 scientific papers in different journals, mainly on cancer. For about 13 years, he has continuously taught basic science subjects, including Pathology, to medical/health science students.

Dr. Sanyaolu is a distinguished medical microbiologist whose career spans public health, clinical practice, and education. With deep expertise in communicable diseases, particularly infectious and tropical diseases, he brings a wealth of knowledge in clinical and public health microbiology.

Dr. Sanyaolu holds a Master’s and Ph.D. in Medical Microbiology from the University of Lagos, Nigeria, and has enriched his expertise through diverse roles in Canada, the United States, and the Caribbean. His contributions to global healthcare include epidemiological surveillance, outbreak investigations, and infectious disease prevention, making him a vital asset in advancing public health initiatives.

Research Interests

My research interest is focused on the study of epidemiology, diagnosis, immunology, molecular, host-pathogen interaction, and control of communicable diseases of clinical and public health significance. Over the years, I have been involved in studies on endemic tropical and emerging communicable diseases like Malaria, HIV / AIDS, and opportunistic parasitic infections, Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD), Tuberculosis, Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Dengue, Chikungunya, Zika, Schistosomiasis and Helminthic infection in school children.

More recently, the sudden emergence, ceaseless human-to-human transmission, and rapid spread of Sars-Cov-2, the causative agent of the Covid-19 has led to continuous global pandemicity of the diseases. My research is currently focused on the disease.

Biography

After graduating from D’Youville’s Physician Assistant Program in 2014, I was determined to return to academia and guide future healthcare providers. The program provided me with a solid foundation for clinical excellence, and I am committed to offering my students the same comprehensive training that I received. I began my academic journey as adjunct faculty in 2018 and have since grown my role to Clinical Assistant Professor, expanding my contributions to the department.

In addition to my academic role, I have been a dedicated member of the healthcare team at a local OB/GYN office since 2015. Working in this field is a true passion of mine, and I consider myself fortunate to practice in an area of medicine that aligns so closely with my professional interests and values. Through both teaching and clinical practice, I strive to make a meaningful impact on patient care and the education of future healthcare professionals.

Dr. Camposeo is a board-certified emergency medicine physician at Erie County Medical Center and a proud Buffalo native. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Buffalo before earning his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree at Nova Southeastern University in Florida.

Returning to his roots, Dr. Camposeo completed his emergency medicine residency at the University of Buffalo, where he later served as an Assistant Clinical Professor and Assistant Program Director for the emergency medicine residency program.
